LIMA, Ohio — The West Ohio Food Bank recently hosted its second annual Family Fun Fest, a celebration to thank the community for their support in the fight against hunger.
Families enjoyed a day filled with games, activities, and entertainment. Kids had a blast with train rides and a giant bouncy house. Attendees sampled free popcorn and snow cones, and some even participated as judges in a chili cook-off. This event aimed to give back to the community that helps the food bank thrive year-round.
Tommie Harner, CEO of the West Ohio Food Bank, expressed gratitude for the community’s support. “We wouldn’t exist without you. We appreciate everyone who volunteers, donates, or spreads the word about our mission,” he said. “This is our way of saying thank you and providing a fun, free day for families.”
Events like this highlight an important issue. According to Feeding America, about 1 in 10 Americans face food insecurity. Community-focused events can help raise awareness and inspire others to get involved. In recent years, social media trends show growing engagement with hunger-related initiatives, with hashtags like #EndHunger frequently trending, encouraging more people to contribute to local organizations.
Next year, the West Ohio Food Bank plans to expand the Family Fun Fest even further, bringing more activities and fun for the families that show up and support the fight against hunger.
This celebration isn’t just about fun; it’s a reminder of the power of community. Whether it’s donating food, time, or resources, every little effort counts in combating hunger in our neighborhoods.
