Donald Trump has hinted at sending long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine if Vladimir Putin doesn’t end his invasion. During a flight to the Middle East, Trump mentioned that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked for the missiles while discussing new weapon supplies. “Tomahawks are a new step of aggression,” Trump stated, questioning if Russia really wants missiles headed their way.
This situation escalated after a recent meeting between Trump and Putin in August failed to yield a peace agreement. Trump has been considering how to supply Ukraine with these long-range missiles through European allies.
Zelenskyy responded to questions about the missile supply on Fox News, saying, “We will see.” He is in talks with U.S. officials about acquiring various long-range precision weapons, including Tomahawks and ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles. A Ukrainian delegation is expected to visit the U.S. soon.
Moscow is worried about the potential supply of these missiles. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressed “extreme concern,” noting that this is a very tense time for all involved. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, an ally of Putin, suggested that Trump’s comments should be taken lightly, hinting that his aggressive approach might not lead to immediate action.
Meanwhile, Russia has ramped up attacks on Ukraine’s power grid, aiming to disrupt energy supplies as winter approaches. Kyiv’s regional governor reported injuries among energy company workers due to the strikes. Zelenskyy highlighted the severity of these attacks, noting that Russia has launched thousands of drones and missiles recently. The energy sector has been a critical front ever since the full-scale invasion began over three years ago.
Zelenskyy also called for stricter sanctions on those buying Russian oil, emphasizing that actions against these buyers remain vital to combat funding for the war. In a recent conversation with Trump, they discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and resilience, as well as focusing on energy issues.
On a brighter note, Zelenskyy announced gains made by Ukrainian forces in the southern Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions, areas central to the ongoing conflict.
Recent surveys show significant support among Americans for aiding Ukraine, with around 70% favoring military assistance. This reflects a broader desire to see a resolution to the conflict, even as the situation remains complex.
