NASHVILLE – The Titans have appointed Mike McCoy as their interim head coach following the departure of Brian Callahan.

McCoy joined the Titans as a senior offensive assistant in March. He brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as a head coach and offensive coordinator in the NFL. Most recently, he was the quarterbacks coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he played a key role in developing Trevor Lawrence.

At 53 years old, McCoy has had a long NFL career, now in his 23rd season. His coaching journey includes time with several teams: the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers, and Arizona Cardinals. During his four seasons with the Chargers from 2013 to 2016, he led the team to notable success. Under his leadership, the Chargers’ offense ranked ninth in total yards per game and boasted a top 10 passing attack each year.

A standout moment during McCoy’s tenure was in 2013 when the Chargers made the playoffs and won a Wild Card game against the Bengals. Quarterback Philip Rivers thrived under McCoy, achieving his highest completion percentages during their time together and earning Comeback Player of the Year honors that season.

Before his coaching career, McCoy played college football at Long Beach State and Utah. He signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 1995, later playing in NFL Europe and the CFL.

As McCoy takes the helm, the Titans are gearing up to face the New England Patriots on Sunday at Nissan Stadium. This coaching shift could bring fresh strategies and a new outlook for the team as they navigate the remainder of the season.
