Denver Men’s Tennis Heads to UNLV for Exciting ITA Mountain Regionals Showdown!

The University of Denver men’s tennis team is gearing up for the 2025 ITA Mountain Regional Championships at UNLV from October 15-20. Four players will represent the Pioneers in both singles and doubles: seniors Ryoma Mishiro and Raffaello Papajcik, along with sophomores Theo Coats and Samuel Rovai.

In doubles, Coats and Papajcik will team up, as will Mishiro and Rovai. This tournament carries a lot of weight. The singles finalists and the doubles champion will earn spots in the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championships. This year is special because the NCAA will decide the singles and doubles champions in the fall instead of the spring, marking a shift in tradition.

Last year, the Pioneers had a fantastic showing, with Papajcik and his teammate Daniel Sancho Arbizu facing off in the singles final. This duel sent both players to the NCAA Championships, showcasing Denver’s talent in this competitive region.

Along with Denver, other teams competing include Air Force, Boise State, BYU, Idaho, and more.

Tournament Schedule

  • October 15: Singles qualifying and doubles round of 64
  • October 16: Singles rounds of 64 and 32, doubles rounds of 32
  • October 17: Singles round of 16 and doubles round of 16
  • October 18: Singles quarterfinals and doubles quarterfinals
  • October 19: Singles semifinals and doubles semifinals
  • October 20: Singles final and doubles final

Key aspects of the matches: singles will be played as best-of-three sets, while doubles will have a tiebreak set, and the finals will switch to a match tiebreak if needed. Consolation matches are also set to take place throughout the week.

Looking ahead, Denver will also compete in the Bobcat Invite at Montana State from October 24-26. This is a busy time for the team as they chase success and visibility in collegiate tennis.

With a history of strong performances, the Pioneers aim to continue their winning streak and make a mark in the upcoming championships. This year promises intense matches and thrilling moments for players and fans alike.
