Mark Ruffalo recently shared an interesting story on the “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” podcast. He recalled a wild night in New Orleans while filming the 2013 movie Now You See Me, a heist thriller featuring illusionists. Ruffalo played an FBI agent chasing down the magic crew.
During filming, he and Woody Harrelson planned to unwind at a crowded bar after work. It didn’t go as smoothly as they hoped. A woman approached Woody, expressing her admiration. When Woody politely acknowledged her, a man suddenly stepped in, shoving her aside and pushing Woody hard. Instead of backing down, Woody’s instinct was to retaliate.
Ruffalo recounted, “A whole melee broke out in this bar. I was in the middle of it. I grabbed Woody and pulled him out.” He knew the situation could spiral quickly, and while they could hold their own, he worried about their friends.
The filming itself was chaotic, with scenes shot in the streets during Mardi Gras. “We were getting dragged into bars during scenes,” Ruffalo said. It’s a testament to the unpredictable nature of filming on location.
Now You See Me was not just a fun project; it was a massive hit, grossing over $351 million worldwide. It even led to a sequel in 2016 and a third film, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, set to premiere on November 14.
