Rajnath Singh, India’s Defence Minister, recently hailed the BrahMos missile as a testament to the country’s tech advancements and self-reliance. During a ceremony marking the missile’s deployment, he emphasized its impressive accuracy, especially showcased during Operation Sindoor.
The BrahMos has gained recognition for its speed and precision and is now set to be manufactured in Lucknow. Singh highlighted that with the first batch being produced there, India is taking significant strides toward becoming a global defense player. The BrahMos missile boasts a strong warhead and advanced guidance systems, making it one of the top missile systems worldwide.
Singh also presented a broader vision. He noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India’s defense sector is evolving. Singh explained that the manufacturing and export of BrahMos demonstrate how “Made-in-India” is now a respected global brand, with sales to countries like the Philippines illustrating this shift.
This rollout isn’t just about military might; it’s about jobs and expertise in India. Singh mentioned that the BrahMos unit in Lucknow is a vital part of Uttar Pradesh’s Defense Industrial Corridor, which plays a key role in the national “Make in India” initiative.
Experts like Dr. Harsh V. Pant, a defense strategist, assert that such initiatives not only bolster India’s military capabilities but also contribute to economic growth by creating jobs and fostering innovation. Recent statistics indicate that the Indian defense sector is expected to grow substantially, with an estimated market size of $223 billion by 2026.
In summary, the BrahMos missile program highlights India’s ambitions in defense, showcasing both technological prowess and economic potential. As the country continues to develop indigenous capabilities, the focus remains not just on strength but also on collaboration and global partnerships.
