Discover the Future: dsm-firmenich Unveils State-of-the-Art Pet Premix Facility in the U.S.

dsm-firmenich has launched a new facility in Tonganoxie, Kansas, focusing exclusively on pet food. This pet-only facility, called NextGen Tonganoxie, is designed to meet a wide range of demands in the pet food industry, offering everything from basic nutrition to advanced functional products.

This facility uses high-tech automation to blend specialty ingredients. By combining dsm-firmenich’s own ingredients with those from trusted suppliers, it provides flexibility for markets across the US, Canada, and Mexico. Rishabh Pande, global VP of pet food at dsm-firmenich, emphasizes their commitment to safety and quality, aiming to set a new standard in pet nutrition. He believes that pet owners deserve the best for their companions.

NextGen Tonganoxie is not just about production. It reflects a significant expansion for dsm-firmenich, following their earlier launch of a facility in Haag, Austria. This is part of their strategy to focus on food ingredients and pet nutrition, having divested their animal nutrition business.

The facility employs advanced blending technology to ensure precise integration of vital micronutrients. This includes vitamins, omega-3s, and other essential components needed for both standard and premium pet food formulations.

Automation plays a key role in enhancing safety at NextGen Tonganoxie. By using the Amabox containerized transport system, they can minimize the risk of human error, which is a common issue in the industry. This system ensures contamination doesn’t occur between production lines, making the process quicker and more reliable.

Opening this facility is expected to create around 30 new jobs, adding to the ongoing economic growth in the Animal Health Corridor. Recently, dsm-firmenich also partnered with Allix, a software provider, to help measure the environmental impact of animal feed production, showing their commitment to sustainability.

In a recent survey, over 70% of pet owners indicated they are willing to spend more on high-quality pet food. This trend highlights the growing demand for premium options that promote pet health.

The focus on improving pet nutrition isn’t just a business move; it reflects a societal shift towards better care for pets. More and more, people are treating pets as family members, demanding products that match human food standards.
