The Seattle Seahawks had a tough but thrilling night on Monday, securing a 27-19 victory against the Houston Texans at Lumen Field. This game came right after the Seattle Mariners lost a heartbreaker to the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALCS. Fans braved the chilly night, filled with hopes for both teams, only to see the Mariners fall short.
In the football game, the Seahawks jumped ahead early, scoring twice in the first quarter. Zach Charbonnet made a 1-yard run for a touchdown, and later, Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught an 11-yard pass that sparked some wild celebrations. However, things got shaky when the Seahawks turned the ball over four times—a mistake that’s often hard to overcome.
Despite those turnovers, Seattle stayed in control. After Houston cut the score to 14-3, the Seahawks responded with another field goal. They then saw Charbonnet find the end zone for a second time, solidifying their lead.
The Texans tried hard to mount a comeback, with defensive end Will Anderson Jr. scoring a touchdown for Houston after a sack led to a fumble by Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold. Despite this, Seattle quickly regained momentum and kicked another field goal.
C.J. Stroud, the Texans’ quarterback, faced a rough outing, completing 23 of 49 passes for 229 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Texans’ ground game struggled, earning just 56 total rushing yards. Houston failed to convert crucial third-down opportunities, going 2 for 15.
On the other hand, Darnold completed 17 of 31 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown, with Smith-Njigba leading Seattle with eight catches for 123 yards. Although the Seahawks won, their four turnovers highlighted an area needing improvement. Turning the ball over that many times usually results in a loss, but this time they managed to cling to victory.
Seattle’s win puts them at a solid 5-2 for the season and keeps them in the race for the top of the NFC West. With their bye week approaching, they’ll have time to tidy up their play.
In the other game of the Monday Night Football doubleheader, the Detroit Lions triumphed over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a score of 24-9. Jahmyr Gibbs contributed significantly with two touchdowns and 136 rushing yards. Unfortunately, the Buccaneers will now have to contend with the loss of star receiver Mike Evans, who suffered a broken collarbone.
This mix of results adds to the excitement of the NFL season, and with teams vying for playoff positions, each game is critical. As both Seattle and Detroit continue their journeys, fans are reminded that the path to the playoffs can be just as thrilling as the finish.
