New Delhi, India – The Odisha government is partnering with the Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2025, which is set to be the biggest event focused on rice in the world. This conference will take place on October 30 and 31 at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Odisha’s participation is a vital step toward enhancing its role in both the national food security framework and the global rice market. The state’s rich diversity in rice cultivation, featuring unique and climate-resilient varieties, will be showcased at BIRC. Odisha plans to highlight its innovative farming policies and initiatives aimed at supporting farmers.
The state will also contribute to a Coffee Table Book that celebrates Indian rice and co-build a Vision and Roadmap for the rice sector. This roadmap is designed to support agricultural growth in line with “Viksit Bharat @ 2047,” a goal for a prosperous and sustainable India.
The Odisha government sees this collaboration as a chance to connect with global partners and attract investments in agricultural processing. The aim is to give farmers a stronger platform in international markets.
Prem Garg, Chairman of Shri Lal Mahal Group and National President of the Indian Rice Exporters Forum (IREF), expressed pride in this partnership, stating it represents an important moment for India’s rice sector. He emphasized the vital role played by cooperatives and grassroots organizations in agriculture.
During the two-day event, more than 1,000 international buyers from over 80 countries, around 2,500 Indian exporters, 5,000 farmers, and more than 200 institutions will participate. This includes researchers, financial organizations, millers, logistics providers, and agri-tech innovators.
As interest in rice continues to grow globally, events like this help in establishing India’s significant presence in the rice trade. A recent report highlighted that rice constitutes about 20% of the global calorie intake, underscoring its importance in global food security.
Overall, BIRC 2025 promises to be a platform for meaningful discussions and partnerships that could shape the future of rice cultivation and trade in India and beyond.
