If Lamar Jackson can’t play, the Ravens have a decision to make: go with Cooper Rush or Tyler Huntley. Coach John Harbaugh hasn’t revealed who will start against the Bears yet.
Cooper Rush has had two starts in place of Jackson. In those games, he completed 25 of 39 passes for 251 yards. However, he struggled, throwing four interceptions without a touchdown. His performance against the Rams before the bye was especially rough, as he threw for only 72 yards.
On the other hand, Tyler Huntley stepped in against the Rams and showed promise. He completed 10 of 15 passes for 68 yards and rushed for 23 yards. Huntley’s ability to run makes him a different kind of threat compared to Rush.
Huntley’s also faced the Bears before. When Jackson got sick during a game in Chicago in 2021, Huntley played and led the Ravens to a 16-13 win, tossing 26 of 36 passes for 219 yards. “I thought Tyler played well,” said Harbaugh. “He practiced well. He looks good.”
In other team news, left tackle Ronnie Stanley, fullback Patrick Ricard, linebacker Roquan Smith, and cornerback Chidobe Awuzie all participated fully in practice this week. This bodes well for their chances to play on Sunday.
However, cornerback Marlon Humphrey missed practice due to illness, and outside linebacker Tavius Robinson is on injured reserve with a broken foot. Safety Kyle Hamilton had limited participation because of a groin issue. Keeping an eye on injuries is crucial for teams, especially as they prepare for game day.
With the Ravens in a tough spot, it’s clear that the team’s depth will be tested. According to a recent NFL survey, teams with strong second-string quarterbacks often perform better, especially in high-stakes games. So, regardless of who starts, how they adapt will be key to their success.
