Tesla isn’t just about electric cars. CEO Elon Musk sees it as a pioneer in AI and robotics. He believes Tesla could be valued at a staggering $20 trillion, a figure he shared in July, which is more than five times Nvidia’s current worth.
In November, Tesla shareholders will consider a proposal to pay Musk a whopping $1 trillion over ten years. This would increase his ownership from 13% to 25%. However, he would only earn this amount if he meets ambitious goals. These include delivering 20 million vehicles and 1 million robotaxis, while achieving an $8.5 trillion valuation. Oh, and he also aims to roll out 1 million Optimus humanoid robots.
During a recent investor call, Musk voiced concerns about control over these robots. He wants to ensure he has significant influence if he builds what he calls an “enormous robot army.” He stated, “If we build this robot army, do I have at least a strong influence over this robot army? Not control, but a strong influence.”
Musk often talks about the potential of the Optimus project as a way to enhance life, not complicate it. He believes these robots will transform the job market and lessen the burdens of daily work. He mentioned that working might become optional, much like growing vegetables at home rather than buying them from the grocery store.
He envisions Optimus as a remarkable surgeon, suggesting that everyone might eventually have access to advanced medical care. “Optimus will be an incredible surgeon,” he remarked. He describes the humanoid robot as an “infinite money glitch,” arguing that the demand for a robot capable of doing various tasks will be immense.
Recent surveys show a rising interest in AI and automation, particularly among the younger generation. According to a study by Pew Research, over 60% of young adults believe AI will significantly impact their lives in the coming years. This is consistent with Musk’s vision of a future where robots significantly improve our quality of life.
