Hans Zimmer, famous for his movie scores like The Lion King and Interstellar, has teamed up with Indian composer Shashwat Sachdev for the title theme of the new British series Virdee. This collaboration also includes Emmy-winner James Everingham, known for his work on Apollo: Missions To The Moon.
Shashwat makes history as the first Indian to co-compose with Zimmer and the only Indian artist to release music through Zimmer’s label, Extreme Music, which has famous names like Deadmau5 and Snoop Dogg. He has earned acclaim for earlier projects, including Uri and Article 370. His album Euphoria won the PRS Foundation’s Best Newcomer Award, and he received the National Film Award for Best Background Score in 2019.
Virdee, inspired by the novels of A.A. Dhand, promises to be a gripping crime thriller set in present-day England. Directed by Mark Tonderai, known for his work on Gotham, the series features actors Staz Nair, Aysha Kala, and Kulvinder Ghir.
Reflecting on this collaboration, Sachdev shared, “Composing across continents shows that good sound needs no translation—just truth. From Mumbai to Los Angeles, it’s one heartbeat.” His journey through different cultures shapes his music and storytelling, marking a significant moment for Indian music in the global arena.

In 2022, a survey reported that nearly 65% of music listeners enjoy tracks that combine elements from various cultures.
