Shashwat Sachdev is making waves in the music world with his collaboration with Hans Zimmer for the title theme of the British TV series Virdee. This marks a historic moment as Sachdev is the first Indian artist to co-compose with the legendary composer known for iconic scores like The Lion King and Interstellar. Joining them is James Everingham, an Emmy-winning composer known for his work on Apollo: Missions To The Moon.
Sachdev has already made a name for himself in India with films like Uri: The Surgical Strike and Article 370. His music recently reached new heights, becoming the only Indian release under Zimmer’s label, Extreme Music, which boasts artists like Deadmau5 and Quincy Jones.
His previous albums, Euphoria (And the Following Realities), which won him accolades like the PRS Foundation’s Best Newcomer Award, and Shades of Cashmere, have received critical acclaim. The track “Dharma” from Euphoria won the Best World Production Music Award at the 2021 Production Music Awards.
The series Virdee, based on A.A. Dhand’s gripping novels, promises a thrilling crime drama set in modern England. Directed by Mark Tonderai, known for his work on Gotham and Locke & Key, it features a talented cast including Staz Nair, Aysha Kala, and Kulvinder Ghir.
Reflecting on this achievement, Sachdev expressed, “The joy of composing across continents is realizing that good sound doesn’t need translation.” He described his journey as a soulful exploration of different cultures through music.
This collaboration not only marks a significant milestone for Sachdev but also signals a bright future for Indian music on the global stage. As Indian artists continue to break new ground, the fusion of diverse musical styles is becoming more prevalent, offering fresh perspectives in storytelling.
