Join Governor Kelly’s ‘The People’s Budget’ Tour: Exciting Food Drives at Every Stop!

Governor Laura Kelly is hosting food drives as part of her “The People’s Budget” listening tour. This event is happening at seven locations around Kansas in partnership with the Kansas Food Bank and Harvesters – The Community Food Network. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to help local families in need.

“With the federal government shutdown dragging on, many Kansans, especially those relying on SNAP and WIC benefits, are in tough spots,” Governor Kelly said. “I’m asking people to support our food banks. It’s a small way to help our neighbors during difficult times.”

Food banks particularly need canned proteins and infant formula right now. They also seek staple items like canned fruits, vegetables, dried beans, and whole grain pasta. Valerie Nicholson‑Watson, Interim President and CEO of Harvesters, emphasized the urgency of this effort. “Hunger doesn’t wait. This food drive is crucial as more families are turning to us for support during this shutdown,” she said. “It’s about hope and community—helping each other when it matters most.”

As the food drives are set to take place in several cities, including Hays and Garden City on October 29, many Kansans are eager to lend a hand.
