According to a Coast Guard statement, their personnel noticed the U-Haul acting suspiciously before the driver reversed toward them. The video captured by photographer Rick Villaroman shows the truck speeding towards the officers, who had aimed their weapons at it. “He just hit the gas and sped towards them,” Villaroman recalled, noting the intense moment when officers opened fire.
No personnel from the Coast Guard were harmed in the incident. As for the driver and bystander, they received treatment and have since been released from the hospital.
