Tragic Shooting at Lincoln University Homecoming: 1 Dead and 6 Injured – What We Know So Far

One person is dead and at least six others were wounded in a shooting during homecoming festivities at Lincoln University, a historic Black college in Pennsylvania.

The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. as crowds were leaving a football game. Witnesses reported a chaotic scene, with many people running from the sound of gunfire. Marc Partee, the university’s police chief, said the violence erupted during a “tailgate” event outside the school’s International Cultural Center.

Authorities have taken one suspect into custody and are investigating whether more than one shooter may have been involved. Chester County District Attorney Chris de Barrena-Sarobe mentioned that there is evidence to support this theory, but it’s still early in the investigation.

The extent of injuries for the six victims is unclear. While local law enforcement is leading the investigation, state officials have offered their full support. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has urged the community to stay away from the area and has extended prayers to those affected.

Survivors described the moment as terrifying. Ajia Hopkins, who was on campus for the celebrations, said there was a sudden rush of people fleeing the area. “It was just a stampede,” she recalled, adding that some friends fell in the commotion.

This tragic event at Lincoln University echoes ongoing concerns about gun violence in communities and educational institutions. Just the night before, there was another shooting near Howard University in Washington, D.C., where multiple people were injured. Data shows an alarming rise in gun violence at schools and community events nationwide, with incidents like these sparking conversations about safety and prevention strategies.

As Lincoln University provides counseling services to support students in the aftermath, the broader community continues to grapple with the realities of these tragic occurrences. It highlights the urgent need for conversations around gun control and community safety.
