Ocean Beach Health Completes Lab Expansion
ILWACO — Ocean Beach Health has wrapped up its laboratory expansion. This marks the first of four big projects funded by the bond measure approved by the hospital district in 2023. Construction started in March and received the green light from the Washington State Department of Health.
“We’re thrilled to complete our first bond project,” said Merry-Ann Keane, the CEO of Ocean Beach Health. “Thank you to our community for their support. These improvements will greatly enhance our local healthcare services.”
The expansion adds 661 square feet, including a new draw station and a redesigned lab layout. These upgrades aim to improve workflow and reduce waiting times for patients. A new microbiology room will also help keep staff safe, while additional space allows for more equipment and staffing. This means the lab can offer services 24/7.
Keane praised the project team, including Larry Cohen from INLINE Construction, for their hard work amid the hectic hospital environment. She especially commended the lab staff for their dedication, keeping services running smoothly throughout the construction.
Currently, Ocean Beach Health’s lab team handles about 800 tests daily. A skilled group of nine technologists and five assistants serve both the main hospital and draw stations in Ocean Park and Naselle.
According to a recent report, efficient lab services are vital in healthcare, as timely test results can significantly impact patient treatment. Modern lab facilities also help retain staff and improve job satisfaction, as noted by experts in healthcare management.
