Jon Stewart isn’t planning to leave anytime soon. He’s made it clear that he wants to continue hosting The Daily Show. In a recent chat at the New Yorker Festival, he told editor David Remnick that he and his team are “working on staying” beyond his December contract.
Stewart returned to The Daily Show earlier this year after stepping away in 2015. He’s now hosting on Mondays and is eager to keep that going. This news came after Colbert criticized Paramount over a controversial $16 million settlement involving Donald Trump. ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel faced a temporary suspension after making headlines for remarks that went viral, drawing criticism from the FCC.
Stewart weighed in on these events. He suggested that Colbert’s show ending might not just be about finances, especially given the current political climate. He pointed to a pattern of fear influencing corporate decisions—something he believes affects late-night comedy and beyond. He said, “To think that bending the knee to Trump will save you is misguided.”
In response to Kimmel’s suspension, Stewart embraced the moment with creativity, turning the challenge into comedy. He noted that, while comedians may draw attention, the real victims are those struggling to have their voices heard.
