A man from Minnesota was arrested for allegedly threatening Attorney General Pam Bondi in a disturbing TikTok post. This post, which was flagged to the FBI, showed a photo of Bondi with a “sniper-scope red dot” on her forehead. Accompanying the image was the text “WANTED: Pam Bondi. REWARD: 45,000. DEAD OR ALIVE (PREFERABLY DEAD).”
The post’s caption included ominous words: “cough cough when they don’t serve us then what?” This raised concerns about the account’s ties to anarchism. It featured a display name with an anarchy symbol and a link to an “Anarchist FAQ” book.
The FBI identified the suspect as Tyler Maxon Avalos, a 30-year-old from St. Paul. His criminal record includes a stalking conviction from 2022 and multiple domestic violence charges.
Avalos made his first court appearance earlier this month and was released on a personal recognizance bond. The case drew attention from Seamus Hughes, an expert at the National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center.
Experts have pointed out the rise of violent rhetoric on social media. According to a recent report by the Anti-Defamation League, threats of violence connected to political figures have increased significantly over the last few years. This trend is alarming, as it highlights the potential dangers that social media can pose to public officials.
Users online reacted with shock and condemnation, amplifying discussions about safety and accountability. As more people speak out against such threats, it’s clear that platforms like TikTok are under scrutiny for how they manage dangerous content.
