LAHAINA, HI – The UConn men’s golf team delivered an impressive performance to conclude their fall season at the Ka’anapali Classic by OUTRIGGER in Maui, Hawaii.
The Huskies secured 11th place in a field of 19 teams, achieving a season-best score of 833 (-19) over three days at the Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course. They recorded scores of 281 on Monday, their best round of 275 on Tuesday, and finished with 277 on Wednesday.
The Oklahoma Sooners clinched the team title for the fourth year in a row, setting a new record with a remarkable 63-under total (789). This broke Kansas’s previous record of 800 from 2021.
Junior Bradley Sawka (Ellington, CT) wrapped up his fall season on a high note. He achieved his best three-round score as a Husky with a total of seven-under 206, tying for 29th place. His rounds were 71, 69, and a career-best 66.
Sawka’s final round was not just his personal best but also marked the lowest round achieved by a Husky this season.
Sophomore Matt Costello (Taunton, MA) also had a standout tournament, finishing at six-under 207. He began with a one-under 70 and had an impressive four-under 67 on Tuesday—his best score so far. He ended with a 70 and tied for 34th overall.
Senior Connor Goode (Glastonbury, CT) finished with a score of 214, placing him tied for 73rd. He had two solid rounds of two-under 69 followed by a 76 on the final day.
Senior Colin Spencer (Mashpee, MA) and sophomore Caden Blanchette (Manchester, PA) both shot 217 (with rounds of 74-70-73 for Spencer and 71-78-68 for Blanchette) and tied for 88th. Notably, Blanchette’s final round of 68 was the best of his career.
Freshman Brayden Jenard (Jupiter, FL), competing individually, finished with a score of 218 (73-69-76) to tie for 94th.
The Huskies will take a break until they resume their spring schedule on February 9-10 at the Lake Jovita Invitational.
This tournament highlights the growing competitiveness of college golf. A study by the NCAA reveals that the number of collegiate golf teams has increased by nearly 20% over the past decade, showcasing a growing interest in the sport. As teams like UConn continue to develop their players, we can expect even more exciting performances in the future.
