The University of Nebraska and Head Coach Matt Rhule have struck a deal to extend his contract for two more years, keeping him at the helm until 2032. While his base salary remains unchanged, the new agreement includes bonuses for securing College Football Playoff spots.
“Coach Rhule is the right leader for Nebraska Football at this time,” says Troy Dannen, the Nebraska Director of Athletics. He highlights the noticeable progress the program has made under Rhule’s guidance, emphasizing the importance of stability in their journey moving forward.
Dr. Jeffrey P. Gold, the University President, echoed this sentiment by praising Rhule’s efforts to build a culture of toughness and accountability. “I’m excited to see how he continues to elevate our program and Husker Nation’s pride,” Gold stated.
In just three seasons, Rhule has revitalized the Nebraska program. In 2024, he led the team to its first winning season in eight years and clinched the program’s first bowl victory since 2015. This year, the Huskers started strong with a 6-2 record, marking the best start for Nebraska in nearly a decade.
Rhule isn’t only focused on football. Academically, the team has excelled, achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.304—the highest in its history—after the spring semester of 2025. This demonstrates that under Rhule’s leadership, athletes are thriving both on the field and in the classroom.
“Our family loves Nebraska,” Rhule said, acknowledging the support he has received. “Our goal is to build Nebraska Football into a consistent championship contender.”
As the Huskers prepare for their next game against USC, the excitement around the program continues to grow. Fans are eager to see how far Rhule can take the team in the seasons to come, reflecting a renewed sense of hope within the Husker community.
The changes brought by Rhule resonate with the wider trend in college athletics where programs increasingly prioritize both performance and academic excellence. This dual focus not only builds stronger athletes but also creates well-rounded individuals who can make meaningful impacts beyond sports.
With Rhule at the steering wheel, expectations are high for the Huskers. His leadership may well prove to be the key ingredient in writing a new chapter for Nebraska Football.
