Square Enix has just released a day-one patch for the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, now available on Switch and Switch 2. This update is small but includes some significant improvements. You’ll find additional voice lines, tweaks to enemy behavior, and the usual bug fixes.
Here’s what’s new in Version 1.0.1.0:
- Added English voices for some scenes.
- More tutorials have been included.
- New accessories: Anti-Freeze Earrings and Asbestos Earrings are now obtainable in Dragon Quest I.
- Adjustments to AI tactics and enemy behavior.
- General bug fixes and performance optimizations.
These additions enhance the gameplay experience, especially with the new accessories that can be quite useful in Dragon Quest I. The English voice work received positive feedback, making the game more engaging.
For those unaware, there’s no upgrade path between versions, so if you buy the Switch 1 version, keep that in mind. You cannot switch to the Switch 2 version without repurchasing.
The Dragon Quest – HD-2D Erdrick Trilogy Collection complicates things a bit. It includes the new I & II Remake and the upcoming III HD-2D Remake, scheduled for 2024. While Dragon Quest III doesn’t offer a specific Switch 2 version, it has a free patch that enhances its visuals and performance on the new console.
Interestingly, according to recent gaming surveys, RPGs are among the most popular genres among players today, with a notable rise in interest for remakes and remasters. This ongoing trend reflects a desire for nostalgia as well as modern takes on classic gameplay.
If you’re planning to stream the game, be cautious. Square Enix suggests that players avoid showing anything after rolling the credits for the first month.
