JAMESTOWN, N.D. – In an exciting matchup, Carson Brown scored twice, leading the sixth-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men’s hockey team to a 4-1 victory over the number one University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) at John L. Wilson Arena.
The game started with UNLV taking the lead, thanks to a goal from Caleb Strong in the first period. But the Jimmies turned things around in the second. Brown got things going, tying the game 1-1 at 6:52 with help from teammates Brad Fortin and James Hooton.
Just before the end of the second period, Kaleb Percival scored the game-winner at 18:27, again assisted by Fortin. Brown added a second goal at 17:51 in the third period, with Jordan Baranesky providing the assist. Matthew McIntyre capped off the night with an unassisted empty-net goal at 19:36.
Goalie Brandon Weare was impressive, stopping 25 out of 26 shots, while Jamestown outshot UNLV 36-26. Both teams struggled on the power play, with Jamestown going 0-for-6 and UNLV not converting on their single chance.
The win sets the stage for an upcoming rivalry game as Jamestown prepares to face the 12th-ranked University of Mary at Schwan Cadillac Rink in Mandan on Saturday at 7 p.m.
