The Baltimore Ravens made a significant move by trading Jaire Alexander, a former Pro Bowl cornerback, to the Philadelphia Eagles. This decision comes after Alexander has struggled to find his place on the team, only appearing in two of the first eight games this season.
In the deal, the Ravens sent Alexander and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Eagles in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick. Despite being signed to a one-year, $4 million contract earlier in June, Alexander found himself a healthy scratch for five games, including a recent win against Miami.
He faced challenges this season, missing part of training camp due to a knee injury and not making a strong impact during a season opener against the Buffalo Bills. In those two games, he logged just 61 snaps without any interceptions or passes defensed.
The Eagles might provide Alexander with a fresh start. They have talented cornerbacks like Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, yet they’re still figuring out who will fill the outside cornerback position opposite Mitchell. Recently, they picked up Michael Carter II, who has mostly played in the nickel position, which could lead to DeJean moving outside full-time.
Interestingly, Alexander has some familiarity with the Eagles’ coaching staff. Christian Parker, the passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach, worked with him in Green Bay. Alexander had previously been released by the Packers after two injury-plagued seasons, which prevented him from replicating his earlier success—he was named an All-Pro in both 2020 and 2022.
To put his struggles in perspective, Alexander was the 18th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Over his career, he has recorded 292 tackles, 12 interceptions, and 70 passes defensed. His journey offers a reminder of the ups and downs players face in the league.
