SULLIVAN COUNTY – With the government shutdown causing delays in food stamp benefits, PSK Supermarkets is stepping up to support local communities. Each store manager is teaming up with nearby food banks to coordinate grocery orders and donations. In total, PSK plans to donate $22,000 worth of food across its New York locations.
Ed Hunt, the company’s vice president, emphasized the urgency of the situation. “There are families relying on SNAP assistance to put food on the table,” he said. The call to action has been welcomed by both customers and PSK employees, eager to help those affected.
“No matter what’s happening at the government level, we want to make sure no one goes hungry,” said Noah Katz, PSK’s CEO. He noted that with ongoing debates in Washington, communities risk feeling the impact of stalled assistance, especially families and children in need.
Store managers are also actively involved. Felix Portereal, who manages the Super Foodtown in Harlem, mentioned, “We’re focused on helping residents who depend on these benefits.” Joe Mojica from Bedford Stuyvesant added, “As we prepare for Thanksgiving, we’re doing everything we can to support our local community.” Jeff Gombita, managing the Peck’s Market in Eldred, echoed this, saying, “Our team wants to make a difference, especially for those in rural areas who face similar challenges.”
All PSK stores are engaged in this initiative, ensuring that grocery donations are made to local food banks. The company’s commitment to community support during tough times speaks volumes about its values and dedication.
