Adani Solar Hits Major Milestone
Adani Solar has just hit a big milestone by shipping over 15,000 megawatts (MW) of solar modules—an achievement that makes it the fastest Indian manufacturer to do so. Of these, 10,000 MW were for the Indian market, while 5,000 MW went overseas.
To put it into perspective, that’s around 28 million solar modules, which could cover nearly 7,500 football fields! A significant portion, about 70%, was made from solar cells produced in India. This effort supports India’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives, emphasizing self-reliance.
The company doesn’t plan to stop here. Adani Solar aims to double its output from 4,000 MW to 10,000 MW by next year. They are targeting another 15,000 MW in shipments to continue pushing the boundaries of solar energy. Recently, a report from Wood Mackenzie recognized Adani as the only Indian manufacturer listed among the top 10 solar module producers worldwide. The report also predicts that India’s solar manufacturing capacity could exceed 125 GW by 2025, significantly outpacing domestic demand.
The report further notes that, while there are challenges ahead, India has great potential to lessen its reliance on China for solar supply.
Adani Solar is making waves beyond just module manufacturing. They have established a retail network in over 550 districts through 35 exclusive partners, ensuring that quality solar products are readily available throughout India. A spokesperson for the company shared, “Our 15,000 MW milestone shows our commitment to India’s clean energy future.”
Positive Impact on Communities
The effects of these shipments are notable. Adani Solar projects indicate they power roughly 5 million homes. They’ve created around 2,500 green jobs and reduced carbon emissions by 60 million tonnes each year—enough to encircle the Earth 1.5 times with their solar modules.
India’s solar manufacturing surge is impressive. In 2014, capacity was a mere 2.3 GW, but it’s expected to reach 100 GW by 2025, with more than 100 active domestic manufacturers. In early fiscal year 2026, solar exports grew by 20% to USD 668 million, with strong interest from countries like the US and UAE.
Adani also leads in the rooftop solar segment, providing 1.78 GW of modules in the past year, powering nearly 600,000 homes. They supply over half of the modules for the government’s Surya Ghar program, aiming to deliver solar power to 10 million households by 2027.
Looking to the Future
India has already seen over half of its electricity sourced from non-fossil fuels, achieving this five years ahead of its Paris Agreement goals. The country is set to reach 500 GW of clean energy capacity by 2030.
With its comprehensive manufacturing capabilities—from ingots and wafers to final modules—Adani Solar continues to play a crucial role in India’s shift towards energy independence.
