Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear took decisive action on Monday by signing an executive order to declare a state of emergency, allocating $5 million from the budget reserve to support Feeding Kentucky’s food banks.
This move comes as a response to a gap in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding. The governor directed the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management to collaborate with the Office of the State Budget Director.
