Test Valley Borough Council has introduced a climate change grant scheme aimed at boosting sustainability projects in local communities. This program offers funding of up to £10,000 to initiatives focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions or enhancing climate resilience.
Recently, several groups received the full grant. For instance, Ampfield Parish Council, Sherfield English Village Hall Trust, and Woodley Village Hall will use the funds to install solar panels and battery storage systems. These upgrades promise to produce renewable energy, lower emissions, and cut energy costs.
Councillor Alison Johnston, who oversees climate emergency efforts in the borough, expressed enthusiasm for these projects. She stated, “This is a great example of local groups taking action against climate change. The Climate Change Grant helps bring excellent ideas to life.”
Other groups benefiting from this program include Abbotswood Community Association and various church councils. Each project aims to make a significant impact on sustainability.
The grant is available to community groups and non-profit organizations within Test Valley. Applicants seeking £5,000 or more must provide 20% of the project cost as match funding. The projects need to demonstrate clear benefits in reducing greenhouse gas emissions or improving community adaptation to climate change.
Applications for the grant will be accepted until December 31, 2025, or until funds run out. Interested parties are encouraged to review the guidelines and reach out to the council’s climate team to discuss their ideas.
