LEAVITTSBURG — LaBrae took charge early in their game on Monday, defeating Crestview with a score of 63-29.
Vikings coach Chad Kiser praised his team’s ball movement, saying, “We had some good inside-out shots and a few early 3-pointers that helped create space.” He added that while their offensive performance wasn’t perfect, their defense really shined, leading to easy scoring opportunities.
Derek Wilson scored 19 points, and Austin Rowe contributed 16, showcasing LaBrae’s offensive depth. Rowe is back in action after recovering from an injury and is already making an impact.
This season has been challenging for LaBrae (8-4, 3-0 MVAC-Gray) due to injuries, including losing Jack Lancaster to an ACL injury. However, the team is finding positives. Players who once had limited roles are now stepping up, which adds valuable depth. Kiser noted, “The return of injured players has improved our spacing and depth, something we lacked earlier.”
Crestview (3-9, 1-4 MVAC-Gray) struggled, with sophomore Eli Cope leading the team with just eight points. Looking ahead, LaBrae faces a tough match against Garfield, another top team in the Gray Tier.
Coach Kiser emphasized the importance of defense in the upcoming game, stating, “Against Garfield, we need strong defense and rebounding. If we play solidly on defense, the offense will follow.”
Crestview’s next game is against Liberty on Thursday. Coach Lou Mateo was unavailable for comments after the game.
