ARLINGTON, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys find themselves in a tough spot. After losing to the Arizona Cardinals, their record stands at 3-5-1. Owner Jerry Jones had hoped for better, but he’s trying to stay realistic.
“Three wins, and here we are,” he said. “I know how to add, and with the games left, I can see our chances for the playoffs.”
Currently, the Cowboys sit second in the NFC East, trailing the Philadelphia Eagles by 3½ games. They are also 11th in the conference, falling behind teams like the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers, who have beaten them earlier this season.
After their bye week, the Cowboys will face a challenging lineup: the Las Vegas Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Los Angeles Chargers. Those teams collectively have a record of 26-16.
Quarterback Dak Prescott feels the pressure. “Every game is a must-win,” he said. “Being behind makes it even more crucial. If we can get on a winning streak, we could turn this around.”
Jones knows the situation is serious. With the trade deadline approaching, he hinted at potential moves to shake up the roster. Earlier, he stated he had a trade agreement in place but later clarified that he could make a trade.
“If you’ve only won three games, you know there’s a lot of work to do,” he admitted. “It’s an uphill battle, and I wish we had more wins before making moves.”
The Cowboys’ defense has struggled from the start. They need help in several areas: defensive line, linebacker, and the secondary. Jones has talked with various teams about players that could help strengthen the lineup.
Despite potential trades, Coach Brian Schottenheimer knows there’s still work to be done on the field. The offense has put up an average of just 13.5 points in the last two games, leaving much to be desired. Prescott faced a tough day against the Cardinals, getting sacked five times, and the team turned the ball over three times.
“I challenged the guys. We need solutions,” Schottenheimer said. “We are where we are.”
With eight games left, the Cowboys’ fate hangs in the balance. Jones understands the odds. “Can we improve our play? Less mistakes? We may also have new faces join us, whether through trade or returning players,” he shared.
The pressure is mounting, and if they want to make a push for the playoffs, they need to act quickly. In the world of sports, every game counts, and the Cowboys need to rally if they hope to turn their season around.
