Universal’s beloved The Mummy franchise is making a comeback. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are in talks to reunite for a new sequel.
Radio Silence, the duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, will direct. They gained attention with the fun horror flick Ready or Not in 2019 and helped breathe new life into the Scream films recently.
Sean Daniel, who produced the original films alongside his late partner James Jacks, will return as a producer. He’s teaming up with familiar faces from Radio Silence like William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein. They share a history with projects like the latest Scream movies.
The first Mummy, directed by Stephen Sommers, was a hit, blending action, romance, and horror in a thrilling adventure. It grossed over $422.5 million and turned Fraser into a household name. The franchise also included a prequel, The Scorpion King, and even an animated series. While Weisz starred in the first two films, Maria Bello took her place in the third.
This new project isn’t a reboot; it’s a sequel that ignores the third film’s events. David Coggeshall is writing the screenplay, though other cast returns remain a mystery.
Fraser’s career received a boost after his role in The Whale, for which he won an Oscar. This moment sparked conversations about the new Mummy film. His next project is Rental Family, set to release on November 21.
Weisz has been busy, too, with roles in Amazon’s Dead Ringers and Marvel’s Black Widow.
Looking ahead, Radio Silence is preparing to release Ready or Not 2: Here I Come in April 2026 and is involved in another project, a vampire horror flick called Abigail, due out next year.
