This week, the Beaver Moon will light up the night sky as the biggest and brightest supermoon of the year. Mark your calendars for November 4. That’s when you can catch this stunning view. The moon reaches its peak brightness on November 5 at 8:19 a.m. ET, but it will be hidden below the horizon. So, the best viewing will be on the evenings of the 4th and 5th.

When you look up, you’ll see it shining in a deep gold color. This supermoon can appear up to 16% brighter and 7% larger than normal. If you miss this one, don’t worry; the next time a moon will look this large and bright won’t be until November 24, 2026.

The name “Beaver Moon” comes from when beavers prepare for winter, going to their lodges for shelter.

For the best experience, you might want to visit a Dark Sky park. These parks have very low light pollution, providing clear views of the night sky. The top-rated Dark Sky park in the U.S. is the Mayland Earth to Sky Park and Bare Dark Sky Observatory in North Carolina.
