New Delhi, Nov 5 (IANS) — Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is excited about building stronger ties between India and New Zealand. He believes that more “Successful Kiwi–Bharat Stories” can emerge as both nations work together across various sectors.
During a community event at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre in Auckland, Goyal praised the Indian diaspora for their hard work. He stated that shared values and aspirations are bringing India and New Zealand closer, creating a promising partnership.
New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon, also spoke at the event. He highlighted how India is on the path to becoming the world’s third-largest economy and emphasized the mutual respect and fairness that define the India-New Zealand relationship. He described the Indian community as important “bridges” that strengthen the ties between the two nations.
Goyal held an interactive session called “Tea with Indian Business Delegation,” where he welcomed many business leaders. He expressed pride in the largest-ever Indian business delegation visiting New Zealand, which aims to boost economic ties. Conversations focused on opportunities in agriculture, technology, and innovation.
Business leaders were impressed by India’s recent policies, such as the Production Linked Incentive Schemes and Startup India initiative, which help Indian firms expand globally. Goyal encouraged businesses to stay resilient, stating that entrepreneurship and innovation are crucial for growth.
He also urged both countries to explore new ways to deepen their economic partnership. Areas like maritime, forestry, sports, and tourism show great potential for collaboration. This visit marks a milestone, showcasing the confidence and dynamism of Indian industry.
Regarding the ongoing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, Goyal noted that discussions are progressing well, with both sides committed to balanced outcomes. New Zealand stands to gain access to India’s growing market, while India can tap into New Zealand’s technological strengths.
A recent report from the World Bank supports this optimism, noting that India is expected to grow by 6.5% this year, bolstered by strong government initiatives and a youthful workforce. This creates a favorable environment for international partnerships.
Goyal also acknowledged the Indian diaspora’s key role in strengthening New Zealand’s economy and enhancing cultural connections. Their contributions help weave a unique bond between the two nations.
