Unlocking India’s Future: Inauguration of the Defence Manufacturing Conclave in Jabalpur, MP

Jabalpur: The Indian Defence Manufacturing Conclave 2025 kicked off in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, bringing together leaders from the defence sector. This three-day event, hosted at the Jabalpur Factory Stadium, is organized by Armored Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), a company under the Ministry of Defence. Sanjay Dwivedi, CMD of AVNL, emphasized the importance of this platform for both public and private companies to showcase their innovations.

According to Dwivedi, Jabalpur is set to establish a new unit for overhauling T-72 tanks, with an investment of about Rs 450 crore. Additionally, contracts worth around Rs 1,500 crore have been awarded to support the project, which aims to create jobs for local vendors.

He highlighted that India’s defence needs are vast, leading to increased orders. Notably, this includes international export orders, which further underscores the potential of the local industry. Dwivedi stated that collaboration with the private sector is essential to meet these demands efficiently.

“We still rely on imports for many essential goods,” he said. “Developing our local manufacturing will reduce this dependency, benefiting the economy.”

Anil Rathore, Executive Director of Madhya Pradesh’s MPIDC, added that any industry investing in the defence sector will receive tax breaks. The government is also creating small industrial zones throughout the state to encourage growth. These efforts aim to foster a business-friendly environment and help local industries thrive.

This push for self-reliance aligns with a broader national trend. According to a recent report by the Department of Defence Production, domestic defence manufacturing is projected to grow to $25 billion by 2025. This growth could transform India’s position from a net importer to an exporter in the global defence market.

Social media has also been buzzing about the conclave. Many users are optimistic about India’s future in defence manufacturing, highlighting the potential for innovation and job creation. The hashtag #DefenceConclave2025 is gaining traction, reflecting a growing interest in self-reliance.

This conclave not only showcases advancements in defence technology but also marks a pivotal step towards a more self-sufficient India.
