Northwood University Students Triumph in Sri Lanka: Champions of the Acuity Trophy!

Students from Northwood University’s International Program Center at America National College (ANC) recently excelled at the 2025 Inter-University Finance Quiz in Sri Lanka, part of the annual Investment Week organized by the Finance Students’ Association at the University of Kelaniya.

The competition brought together undergraduates from various universities, testing their knowledge in finance, economics, and capital markets. The Northwood-ANC team, consisting of Akasha Senewiratne, Raveen David, Manupa Gunawardana, Nuwani Seneviratne, and Tharuki Rathnaweera, earned the Acuity Champions Trophy and a cash prize of 70,000 Sri Lankan rupees.

Dr. Kristin Stehouwer, the Academic Vice President and Provost, commended their achievement. She noted, “This victory reflects the academic excellence and global business skills nurtured through our programs. Our students showcase the entrepreneurial spirit that represents The Northwood Idea worldwide.”

This quiz has a long-standing reputation in Sri Lanka, with universities participating from all corners of the country, both public and private. Events like this not only foster competition but also encourage collaboration among students from different backgrounds.

Since 2004, Northwood University and ANC Education have partnered to provide degree programs in Sri Lanka. This collaboration allows students to earn a Northwood degree while gaining crucial analytical skills and a free-enterprise mindset. These qualities are what set Northwood graduates apart in today’s job market.

With the rise of the digital economy, financial literacy is becoming increasingly important. According to a recent survey by the Financial Literacy and Education Commission, only 30% of adults in the U.S. are financially literate. This emphasizes the need for initiatives like the finance quiz, which equip students with essential knowledge for their futures.

Social media reactions to the quiz highlight the enthusiasm around financial education. Many students shared their experiences, emphasizing teamwork and the valuable skills they gained. This reflects a growing trend where young people recognize the significance of financial knowledge in navigating their careers.

Overall, events like these not only honor student achievements but also pave the way for a future generation that values financial literacy and business acumen.
