Beavers Kick Off Season with Thrilling Victory: A Recap from Oregon State University Athletics

Oregon State’s Season Opener: A Strong Start

Oregon State kicked off the season with an impressive 86-45 win over Corban. The Beavers dominated throughout, showing off their defense with 14 blocks and 13 steals. They held the Warriors to just 29% shooting.

Head coach Scott Rueck noted the team’s journey in the game. “It wasn’t perfect, but we settled in during the second half. The ball moved much more freely, which is a good sign for the season,” he shared.

Five players scored in double figures, with Lara Alonso-Basurto leading the way. She recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, making her the sixth Beaver to achieve that feat in her debut game since 2020.

Tiara Bolden sparked the team early, scoring eight of her 13 points in the first quarter, helping Oregon State jump to a 23-7 lead. Bolden also contributed seven rebounds and six steals, showcasing her all-around skills.

The second quarter was slower, but the Beavers maintained a solid lead at halftime, 35-14. Kennedie Shuler kicked off the second half strong, scoring four quick points and leading a 19-0 run that propelled the team further ahead. She finished with 10 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.

Lizzy Williamson and Alonso controlled the inside game. Williamson, now in her seventh year, added 10 points and seven rebounds in just 15 minutes. Freshmen Keira Lindemans and Katelyn Field chipped in 10 points together, marking a solid start to their college careers.

Ally Schimel contributed 11 points, hitting three of six from beyond the arc. The sophomore class combined for 23 points, showing promising depth for the team.

Interestingly, Oregon State committed only six fouls, their fewest since December 2021. This disciplined play will be crucial as the season progresses.

As they look ahead, the Beavers will face Air Force next Monday at 6 p.m. Veterans can claim free tickets on VetTix.

Overall, this strong performance sets a positive tone for Oregon State as they move forward in the season. With skilled players and developing teamwork, fans can expect exciting games ahead.
