Ybor City, Fla. — Early Saturday, tragedy struck when a car crashed into Bradley’s bar, leaving four people dead and 11 others injured, according to Tampa police.
The driver, 22-year-old Silas Sampson, reportedly sped before losing control and plowing into the bar. Witnesses said the victims were enjoying drinks on the patio when the car hit.
Around 12:45 a.m., police spotted a vehicle speeding on I-275. They believed it matched a vehicle seen racing earlier. When police tried a maneuver to stop the car, it failed, and they chose not to continue the chase due to safety concerns.
“This was a night out that turned into a nightmare,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. “People came out to enjoy themselves, but a reckless driver changed everything.”
Three victims died at the scene, with one later succumbing to injuries in the hospital. All victims were adults, out for a night of fun.
The driver is now in police custody and faces charges of vehicular homicide, among other felonies. The investigation is ongoing.
