This year’s Feed the Need concert is set to showcase country artist Drake Milligan. Organizers hope to smash previous fundraising records amid rising food insecurity.
The concert will take place at the Wachholz College Center on November 13 at 6 p.m. Milligan will headline, alongside performers Tommy Edwards and Clint Sherman.
Recent changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) have left many families in need. Chris Sidmore, Executive Director of the Flathead Food Bank, reported a significant uptick in visitors. On one Monday alone, there were 50 more families than usual. As the week went on, the food bank saw double the lines it typically does.
Now in its fourth year, Feed the Need began in 2022, gathering community members to support the local food bank. It’s clear that the need for assistance has grown, with this year’s goal set at $200,000—a far leap from last year’s record of $70,000. So far, they’ve secured $100,000 in sponsorships.
Admission to the concert is by donation, at the door, for the first 1,000 attendees. Sidmore expressed excitement about the atmosphere the event brings, saying, “Having 1,000 people united for a common cause creates an indescribable energy.”
Drake Milligan, an up-and-coming star known for blending traditional and fresh country sounds, is ready to contribute to this important cause. He said, “Music can make a difference, especially in raising money for good causes.” Milligan is no stranger to the spotlight, having appeared on shows like “American Idol” and “America’s Got Talent.” His latest album, “Tumbleweed,” released on November 7, promises a mix of nostalgic and modern sounds.
Beyond the music, the concert will share inspiring stories from clients who have turned their lives around with the help of the food bank. Additionally, students from Somers Middle School will have a booth offering chai and hot chocolate, with proceeds supporting their own food pantry.
Despite the challenges facing food banks today, Sidmore is optimistic. He’s met incredible volunteers who are eager to help. Recently, generous donors have offered a $15,000 match for donations at the concert.
This initiative is part of a broader trend as communities increasingly come together to support those in need. As food insecurity continues to rise, events like Feed the Need are vital for making a positive impact.
