Quinn noted, “After reviewing the tape, it was clear that we were off,” highlighting the need for change. He emphasized his strong working relationship with Whitt, who will still be involved in planning and game preparations, though he will now be in the press box on game day.
The Commanders’ defensive struggles aren’t unique; many teams face similar issues, especially as offensive talent in the league continues to rise. A recent survey showed that 64% of NFL fans believe that teams need to innovate their defensive strategies to keep up with high-scoring offenses.
Quinn and Whitt’s history together—having previously collaborated with the Dallas Cowboys—gives them an edge. Both understand each other’s strengths, which could help implement quicker changes needed for the defense.
