LAS VEGAS — The Los Angeles Dodgers might soon show interest in Kyle Tucker this off-season. With back-to-back World Series titles, they have the money and motivation to strengthen their roster, especially in the outfield, where Tucker plays.
Last year, they went with short-term outfield options, but they might reconsider that approach. One interesting name is Ryan Ward. The Dodgers just added him to their 40-man roster after a standout season in Triple-A, where he impressed with his offensive skills.
The Dodgers are known for pursuing top free agents. Last year, they stayed in the running for Juan Soto, who eventually signed a record-breaking deal with the New York Mets. However, their $17 million signing of Michael Conforto didn’t work out, as he struggled at the plate and missed the postseason roster.
This off-season, they might consider a temporary solution while keeping one eye on the future. The Dodgers have impressive outfield prospects in their farm system, with four players who could be big names soon. Notably, Josue De Paula, who excelled in the Minor Leagues and was named MVP at the Futures Game, is on the verge of making his mark.
Another prospect, Zyhir Hope, is also rising fast after joining from the Chicago Cubs. Eduardo Quintero, just 19, had a fantastic season with a .923 OPS at High A. Mike Sirota, acquired in a trade, performed well in High A too. However, none of these talents is expected to join the majors in 2026.
Adding Ward to the 40-man roster signals that the Dodgers see potential in him. At 27, he had a notable season, with 36 home runs and a .937 OPS, earning Pacific Coast MVP honors. Despite some defensive concerns, the Dodgers might find a role for him in their lineup.
One option could be a platoon with Alex Call, who they acquired during the trade deadline. Call didn’t get significant playing time during the postseason but may be ready for a more prominent role now.
The Dodgers also have other possibilities. Tommy Edman, if healthy, could play center field, allowing Andy Pages to shift to a corner. Bringing back Kiké Hernández or considering free agents like Harrison Bader or Trent Grisham could also be smart moves. In July, the team explored a trade for Steven Kwan, showing they’re open to bolstering the roster through various avenues.
All these options seem reasonable for a team eager to make history. The Dodgers aim for a threepeat—a feat not accomplished since the 1998-2000 New York Yankees. Or they could opt for a big splash and sign Kyle Tucker to solidify their outfield.
