On Monday, Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton revealed he has testicular cancer. He had surgery the day after the Broncos’ win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Thankfully, he caught the cancer early, but he will miss time on the field. For sure, he won’t play in the upcoming Week 11 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Singleton shared, “I’ll recover quickly from the surgery and get back up soon,” but he confirmed he will miss this weekend’s game.
What’s remarkable is he played through knowing he would have surgery the next day. He finished the game with nine tackles, helping the team despite his condition.
His teammates have shown tremendous support. Justin Strnad, who will take on more responsibilities in Singleton’s absence, praised Alex’s strength. Strnad said, “He’s shown to be the ultimate competitor. This is a big obstacle, but he’s going to overcome it. We’re all going to be here to help him.”
Singleton’s resilience is inspiring, especially considering the challenges he has already faced. He suffered an ACL injury last season and has worked hard to return to the field. The Broncos have managed to bring back Dre Greenlaw, another linebacker, who will also step up along with Strnad.
The Broncos will need to adapt without Singleton. He usually wears the green dot on his helmet, which allows him to communicate plays from the coaching staff to the defense. Strnad may take on this role since he knows the defense well, having been in the trenches with them longer than Greenlaw.
Their upcoming game against Kansas City will be tough. Strnad said, “Alex sharing his story inspires us all. We’ll put our best foot forward to get a victory this week.”
This situation shines a light on how sports teams rally around each other in tough times. It’s not just about the game but also about the individual stories of courage and support. The Broncos will need that spirit as they face a significant challenge ahead.
As Singleton battles his illness, he has the unwavering support of his team and fans alike. The Broncos are not just preparing for a game; they are also rallying for their teammate in a tough fight.
