ROSEMONT, Ill. — The University of Minnesota men’s hockey team has a star to celebrate. Goaltender Luca Di Pasquo has been named a Big Ten Conference Star of the Week. This is a big deal for the team and for Di Pasquo, marking his standout moment this season.
Di Pasquo played a crucial role as the Gophers ended a four-game losing streak, helping them sweep Notre Dame. He made an incredible 52 saves out of 53 shots faced, which gave him a stellar 0.50 goals-against average and a .981 save percentage over the weekend. He also achieved his first shutout this season, stopping 19 shots on Friday. Plus, he made an assist on a crucial insurance goal in the third period—his first point in NCAA play.
On Saturday, he continued his strong performance with 33 saves in a 4-1 victory, marking his second game with over 30 saves this season. His weekend efforts improved his season stats to a 2.19 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage.
Interestingly, Di Pasquo is the first Gopher to receive this honor in the 2025-26 season. Last season, the team secured 12 Big Ten Star of the Week titles, highlighting their strong performance across all player positions.
As the Gophers look ahead, they hope to build on this success and use Di Pasquo’s momentum as a foundation for future games. In a sport where goaltending can make or break a game, Di Pasquo’s skill in the net is proving invaluable for Minnesota this season.
