Google is rolling out a fresh update for its Pixel phones, introducing an exciting new feature: notification summaries. The update will be available to Pixel series phones from the Pixel 9 and up, except for the Pixel 9A.
In August, Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority shared insights on this feature when code for it surfaced in the Android 16 beta. These summaries focus only on lengthy conversations, which gives the AI more context to generate accurate and concise information. C. Scott Brown from AA notes that this strategy could help prevent the mistakes Apple’s AI encountered before. Moreover, Google plans to enhance this feature in December by automatically sorting notifications and silencing those deemed lower priority.
Earlier this year, Google expanded its scam detection capabilities beyond Pixel devices. Now, Pixel 6 and newer models will offer scam detection not only in Google Messages but also in popular third-party apps like Telegram and Discord. Users will see notifications labeled as “likely scam,” prompting them to remain cautious with a helpful pop-up. This feature is also rolling out for calls, specifically for Pixel 9 owners in the UK, Ireland, India, Australia, and Canada.
Another intriguing update for Google Messages allows users to “remix” photos using AI. While this feature is currently limited to the English-speaking audience in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, and New Zealand, it presents a fun way for users to engage creatively right within the app. Additionally, notifications from important contacts—referred to as VIPs—will now take priority on Pixel 6 and newer devices.
