Exciting New Horizon MMO for Mobile and PC Sparks Outrage Among PS5 Fans!

NCSoft has just unveiled Horizon Steel Frontiers, a new MMO for mobile devices and PC, inspired by Guerrilla Games’ popular Horizon series. This game sends players to the Deadlands, a post-apocalyptic setting drawing inspiration from Arizona and New Mexico.

In Steel Frontiers, you can create your own character and explore vast landscapes while teaming up with thousands of other players. The focus will be on combat and customization, allowing players to tailor their experiences.

Director Jan-Bart Van Beek from Guerrilla expressed excitement about the project. He mentioned, “Steel Frontiers has a unique identity, brought to life by NCSoft’s developers while fitting seamlessly into the Horizon universe.”

However, fans on social media have voiced frustration. Many PlayStation users feel sidelined since this game isn’t launching on PS5, especially after another mobile-focused title, Ratchet & Clank: Galaxy Rangers, was announced. “A new PlayStation game not coming to PlayStation, and the gameplay is actual fire,” said one user.

The decision to prioritize the mobile market reflects a broader trend in gaming. According to a recent Statista report, mobile gaming revenue is expected to reach over $100 billion by 2025, suggesting that companies are increasingly focusing on this segment.

Historically, franchises like Horizon have thrived on console platforms. Guerrilla has hinted they are still developing a separate multiplayer experience for the existing console audience, so fans might not be left in the dust for long.

Despite the initial backlash, Horizon Steel Frontiers aims to grow the franchise’s appeal, especially in Asia, where mobile gaming continues to surge.

NCSoft is eager to launch the title, with pre-registration expected to kick off soon. For more information, check the announcement on The Verge.
