On December 4, the Houston Kashruth Association will host its fourth annual Kosher Food and Wine Tasting Extravaganza at Congregation Beth Yeshurun. This event allows attendees to enjoy over 100 award-winning kosher wines alongside a variety of delicious kosher hors d’oeuvres.
The evening kicks off with a VIP Reception at 6:30 PM, followed by general admission at 7:15 PM, all taking place in the Pulaski Rauch Auditorium. Tzivia Weiss, executive director of HKA, shared her excitement about the event, noting that while such tastings are common in cities like New York and Los Angeles, Houston is lucky to host this experience again. Last year drew over 650 attendees, and this year, Weiss hopes to welcome even more.
What makes this extravaganza unique is its focus on fostering community. There’s no formal program, allowing for an open and inclusive atmosphere. Weiss emphasizes that the goal isn’t to convert participants to kosher observance but to share the richness of kosher offerings beyond the familiar brands of the past.
Houston’s Orthodox Jewish community has grown significantly in the last decade, with families relocating from places like New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto. This trend has sparked a demand for more kosher restaurants and products, increasing the need for the HKA’s supervision and certification.
Notable guests at this year’s event include Jay Buchsbaum from Kedem and Royal Wine Corp, and Sagie Kleinerer from Covenant Winery. Kleinerer expressed his excitement about sharing high-quality wines with the Houston community.
Sponsorship opportunities are available, granting access to the VIP reception where attendees can mingle with winery owners and taste exclusive wines. For the event, a dressy casual attire is recommended.
Houston’s Jewish community is thriving, reflecting a broader trend of growth in urban areas. According to recent reports, Jewish communities in cities across the U.S. are seeing unprecedented growth, with increased participation in cultural events like this wine tasting.
