The Hays County Food Bank has launched its 19th Annual Turkeys Tackling Hunger campaign. This initiative aims to provide holiday meals for over 1,500 families in the community.
Each Holiday Meal Kit contains a turkey and all the fixings for a festive meal. This program is built on the generosity of local donors and sponsors, including Night Hawk Frozen Foods, Little Guys Movers, H-E-B, and the Central Texas Food Bank.
Lisa Young, the Executive Director, emphasizes the program’s importance: “Turkeys Tackling Hunger is a cherished tradition. It’s not just a meal; it’s about community and ensuring every family in Hays County can celebrate the holidays with joy.”
This year, the demand for support has increased due to rising food costs. The food bank has an incredible buying power, meaning that a contribution of just $60 can provide a complete Thanksgiving meal for a family. In fact, studies show that food banks can stretch donations further than individuals might expect—every dollar counts.
In appreciation, donors giving $60 will receive a free Turkeys Tackling Hunger t-shirt. Those looking to contribute can do so securely online at the Hays County Food Bank’s website.
Additionally, community volunteers are welcome to help distribute meals or support other essential programs. Getting involved not only helps those in need but also strengthens community bonds.
As food insecurity remains a pressing issue, even more so in recent years, the importance of programs like this cannot be overstated. Together, we can ensure that every family has a reason to gather, give thanks, and celebrate during this holiday season.
