Join the Sisterhood: Duke University Celebrates Taylor Sofilkanich’s Arrival!

DURHAM, N.C. — Duke women’s basketball recently announced that Taylor Sofilkanich has signed to join their 2026 freshman class. This talented player, ranked 43rd by ESPN, shared her enthusiasm about the move, stating, “I chose Duke because it’s the perfect place to challenge myself.” She believes Duke will help her grow both on and off the court.

Sofilkanich, a 6’5″ center from Holmdel, New Jersey, is known for her strong fundamentals and patience in the game. She has impressive skills, including the ability to score from both sides and a solid defensive presence. During her sophomore year at St. John Vianney High School, she demonstrated her talent by scoring over 300 points, pulling down 232 rebounds, and blocking 59 shots.

Coach Kara Lawson is excited about what Sofilkanich brings to the team. She describes Taylor’s upbeat personality and energy, highlighting her ability to finish plays and be a smart player on both ends of the court. “Her size and intelligence are a perfect fit for what we need,” said Lawson.

In her junior year, Sofilkanich averaged 11.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Notably, she contributed significantly to her team’s success, finishing with four double-doubles and playing a key role in winning the Shore Conference title.

As a versatile athlete, Taylor also excelled in volleyball, earning All-Shore honors, showcasing her athleticism beyond basketball. Interestingly, her sister Ashley plays for the University of Michigan’s women’s basketball team, indicating that talent runs in the family.

The excitement around Sofilkanich reflects broader trends in women’s basketball, where new players are breaking records and changing the landscape. As the sport grows in popularity, more young athletes are choosing colleges known for their strong programs. This trend is supported by a recent NCAA report showing a consistent increase in female participation in college sports, highlighting a positive trajectory for women’s athletics.
