Hello everyone,
As Thanksgiving approaches, I find myself reflecting on gratitude. This year, I’m thankful for support from all of you as we guide our University into a vibrant future. It’s a privilege to serve the Mountain State and embrace traditions that connect us.
Mark your calendars! We’re reviving the Woodburn Hall Lighting, a cherished event that brings our community together. Join us on Tuesday, December 2, at 6 p.m. for live music, cocoa, and cookies, leading up to the official lighting at 6:30 p.m. It’s been over a decade since we last celebrated this, and we can’t wait to share the joy with you. Thanks to Huntington Bank and Northeast Natural Energy for making this happen. You can learn more about this beloved event here.
However, I know this season can also bring challenges for many. If you or someone you know needs support, remember our Faculty and Staff Assistance Program is available for you and your dependents. It’s free and confidential.
For those looking to give back, The Rack: WVU Student Food Pantry needs donations, especially ahead of the Thanksgiving season. You can contribute until November 19, either through donations at Morgan House or by looking at their Amazon Wish List or monetary contributions.
Students staying in Morgantown over the break can request Thanksgiving meal supplies until November 19. Just fill out this form.
Looking ahead, we have a clear path for our University, thanks to the Strategic Compass. This plan reflects our community’s thoughts and sets our priorities: education, discovery, health, service, and experiences, all guided by our rallying cry, “Let’s Go!”
I’m excited to announce our first $50,000 contribution to support our innovation initiative from Rick Wagener. Our goals are ambitious, and we need your ideas to make them happen.
Here are some updates from our campus:
- We recorded an impressive student retention rate of 85.1% on the Morgantown Campus, and first-time freshman enrollment has increased by over 7% this year.
- At the recent Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities meeting, we engaged in vital discussions about public university priorities.
- We welcomed prospective students last Saturday during the Discover WVU event, engaging hundreds of future Mountaineers.
- Our student-athletes continue to excel, with the women’s cross country team vying for a national championship soon.
- The Mountain State Cyber Summit was a success, showcasing our leadership in cybersecurity education and research.
- I had fun celebrating the 50th anniversary of our PRT by quizzing students during their ride! You can see more about it here.
Whether we’re advocating for each other, cheering on our teams, or celebrating milestones, we’re making strides at WVU. Together, we will continue to grow and thrive.
Let’s Go!
