This week, I ventured out to explore the best tacos in Chattanooga and found myself at La Delicia Latin Cuisine #2.
You might recognize the name. The original Taqueria La Delicia was a beloved food truck parked near Tienda Aguila on 30th and Rossville Blvd. As word spread about their tasty offerings, the owners launched La Delicia Latin Cuisine #1 on 43rd and Rossville, adding a sit-down option for their loyal fans.
After relocating, Tienda Aguila moved to Dayton Blvd., and so did the food truck, which is now back on 29th and Rossville. The new location for La Delicia #2 has taken over the old spot next to the new Tienda Aguila.
Walking into the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon, I found it cozy and decorated with vibrant Guatemalan art. The menu was just as extensive as the original. The waitress welcomed me warmly, asking if I was new to this location. I shared my history with the brand, having enjoyed meals at the food truck and the first restaurant.
“Same owner, same great food!” she assured me. I could already tell I was in for a treat. I started with guacamole, chips, and a Michelob Ultra to kick things off. The atmosphere was lively. Nearby, a family was belly-laughing, sharing stories while four men were engaged in hearty conversation. A couple at the front had their child glued to a soccer game streaming on the big screens.
“We stay busy; people love our food,” the waitress said as she brought my appetizers. I was ready to dig in, especially since I was a huge fan of their street tacos topped with grilled onions and cabbage.
“Have you tried our Birria tacos?” she asked. Honestly, I hadn’t, but I was excited to give them a go. Soon enough, my plate of guacamole arrived. Fresh avocado blended perfectly with tomatoes, cilantro, and jalapeños, all touched with zesty lime juice. The chips were robust, just right for dipping, and my beer was refreshingly cold.
Next came the Birria tacos, served with salsa verde and a bowl of consommé. The crispy shells enveloped tender, juicy pork. I could tell it was cooked to perfection, with that satisfying crunch on the outside. Dipping a taco into the flavorful broth was a culinary delight. Each bite combined the richness of the consommé and the smooth guacamole, exploding with flavor.
It felt good to be there. Everyone around me was enjoying their meals, and it was clear the team at La Delicia truly cares about serving homemade food and creating a welcoming experience.
This location is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Don’t miss their Tuesday deal: tacos (American Style) for just $1.25. They also have lunch specials during the week and ample parking.
