Don’t Miss the Action: Women’s Basketball Kicks Off Home Opener Against Rice This Wednesday!

The Princeton Women’s Basketball Team is gearing up for an exciting matchup against the Rice Owls at Jadwin Gym this Wednesday at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to support the Tigers Fight Hunger Food Drive.

Recently, the Tigers faced the No. 7/9 Maryland Terrapins, losing 84-68. In that game, Princeton struggled in the third quarter, allowing Maryland to pull away with a 20-8 run. Despite a strong effort in the fourth quarter, with Madison St. Rose scoring 20 points and Olivia Hutcherson contributing 19, the team couldn’t close the gap.

Fadima Tall shone brightly, earning Ivy League Player of the Week honors for her performance. She averaged 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals over two games. Tall also had a career-high 21 points in a victory against Villanova, showcasing her potential as a key player for the season. She and St. Rose are leading the team with an average of 16.7 points each per game.

Interestingly, the Tigers have a noticeable pattern in their scoring. They’ve been outscored in the first three quarters but have excelled in the fourth, outpacing their opponents by 22 points. This resilience could be crucial against a Rice team that is currently 2-1, featuring standout players like Victoria Flores, who averages 12.3 points per game.

Historically, Princeton is coming off a strong season, having been voted the No. 1 team in the Ivy League Preseason Poll, with a mix of returning talent and promising new recruits. The coaching staff remains focused and consistent, led by head coach Carla Berube, who has a remarkable track record of success with the Tigers.

As the season progresses, it’s clear that Princeton is a team to watch. Their mixture of talent, strategy, and determination could lead them to more victories on the court. For more information on the game and the team, check out their official site here.
